Mim Tea Estates
The Story
Mim Tea Estate is one of Darjeeling’s quiet, remote, and deeply traditional tea gardens, nestled close to the Indo–Nepal border in the western hills of Darjeeling. Unlike the more commercial estates closer to town, Mim has evolved at its own pace—shaped by isolation, forest cover, and generations of tea-growing heritage.
The garden has long been known for its small-scale, orthodox production, relying primarily on heritage China bushes that are well adapted to the steep Himalayan terrain. Life at Mim follows the natural rhythm of the seasons, with plucking cycles closely aligned to climate and elevation rather than market pressure.
Mim Tea Estate represents a side of Darjeeling tea that is authentic, understated, and community-rooted—a garden where tea is not just a crop, but a way of life sustained by land, forest, and people.
Ownership & Management
Mim Tea Estate operates as a traditionally managed plantation, supporting a close-knit worker community living within and around the estate. Estate management focuses on:
Maintaining leaf quality over volume
Preserving older tea sections
Sustaining livelihoods in a remote location
Because of its geography, Mim has remained largely insulated from rapid modernization, allowing its management practices to retain a classic Darjeeling character.
